“Take pride in what you wanna do. Even if that means a new person every night inside of you. Only here for a few nights then I’m gonna be a memory.”

Alma is one of about 25 parents who have come to the Food Shift distribution at Brookfield Elementary this year. Food Shift gave donated reusable bags to each parent and asks that they bring the reusable bag back to each distribution. Parents are often seen leaving with two giant bags full of food. Food Shift ensures all food is donated and encourages parents to share with their friends and neighbors to make sure none of the food is wasted. Please vote for us in the “Start Something That Matters” Challenge - http://bit.ly/18E7fU6 (Voting Ends Friday!)

Food Shift has launched a food recovery program in partnership with Oakland Unified School District. Maribel and Anjelica are parent volunteers at Brookfield Elementary School who have helped with the daily collection, tracking and distribution of milk, fruit and other items. The program stores excess food from the cafeteria and then redistributes to parents of the students at the school. See the rest of our photos and follow the story as we continue the program in the Fall and expand to more schools.
